Continuity in parent-child relationships from infancy to middle childhood and relations with friendship competence
Freitag, M., Belsky, J., Grossmann, K., Grossmann, K.E., & Scheuerer-Engliseh, H. (1996). Continuity in parent-child relationships from infancy to middle childhood and relations with friendship competence. Child Development, 67, 1437-1455.
A cross-cultural study that looked for longitudinal relationships between infant attachment and middle childhood in Germany (around age 10). Relationships were found between infant attachment and later parent-child communication, as well as social competence. Results taken as cross-cultural support for Belsky's view that secure early attachment facilitates later social competence.
